Map Explorer Privacy Policy

Map Explorer (package com.cygnusx.mapexplorer) is an Android and iOS app published by Cygnus X Enterprises LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use either version of the app.

Account and sign-in

Map Explorer does not require an account or sign-in.

Location and exploration information

With your permission, Map Explorer accesses precise and approximate location information while you use its map and exploration features. If you enable tracking, the app may continue to access location in the foreground and background so that a route or exploration session can continue when the app is not open on screen.

Location information may include coordinates, movement, speed, walking or driving classification, timestamps, and routes or areas explored. The app uses this information to display your location, distinguish travel activity, show exploration progress, and record routes or trips. You can stop tracking in the app at any time.

Information stored on your device

Map Explorer stores bookmarks, bookmark categories, route and exploration history, and related settings locally on your device. On iOS, bookmarks may include photos. On Android, bookmarks may include photos or videos. All such media is selected or captured by you and stored locally. This information is used to provide app functionality and is not uploaded to Cygnus X by Map Explorer.

Optional age, gender, and weight settings are also stored locally. Map Explorer uses these settings only for in-app calorie estimates and personalization, and does not upload them to Cygnus X.

You may export Map Explorer data as a local file and later import it. Exported and imported files are chosen, saved, and shared by you through your operating system. Map Explorer does not upload this data to Cygnus X or provide cloud backup. Device backups or transfers managed by your device, operating system, or backup provider may create copies outside the app; those copies are governed by that provider's settings and policies.

Camera and photo-library access

On iOS, Map Explorer requests camera access only when you choose to take a bookmark photo and photo-library access only when you choose to select one. On Android, the app may request the applicable camera or media permission when you choose to add a bookmark photo or video. These permissions are optional and are not needed for map exploration or tracking.

Google Maps and Google Play services

Map Explorer uses Google Maps and Google Play services on Android and Apple MapKit on iOS to display maps and provide location-related functionality. These services may process information, such as device, network, and location information, under their own terms and privacy policies. Advertising and consent

Map Explorer displays Google AdMob banner advertising and uses Google's consent-management tools where required. Depending on your platform, region, device, app configuration, and consent choices, Google and AdMob may collect or process advertising identifiers, device identifiers, IP address or IP-derived approximate location, app interactions and usage information, and diagnostic or performance information.

Google may use this information for ad delivery, measurement, fraud prevention, and personalization where consent applies. For more information, see Google's advertising and AdMob privacy information and Google's Privacy Policy.

Regional privacy rights

Third-party advertising and mapping providers process information under their own privacy policies. You can manage device permissions and any available advertising or privacy choices through the app, your device settings, or the applicable provider. Your choices, retention, and deletion

You can stop tracking in Map Explorer at any time. You can revoke location, camera, photo-library, notification, and related permissions through your device settings; features that depend on a revoked permission may no longer work.

Bookmarks, photos, routes, exploration history, and settings remain on your device until you delete them in the app, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Clearing storage or uninstalling removes data stored locally by the app on that device. Advertising and mapping-service information is retained by the applicable third-party provider under its own policies.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Map Explorer's features or data practices change. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
