Caramelized Shallot and Goat Cheese Galette

This rustic galette combines the sweet and savory flavors of caramelized shallots and creamy goat cheese for a delightful treat. Perfect as an appetizer or a light meal, this galette is both elegant and easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 large shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 oz goat cheese, crumbled
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Fresh thyme leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced shallots and cook until they are soft and beginning to caramelize, about 15 minutes.
  3. Add balsamic vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper to the shallots. Cook for another 5 minutes until the mixture is thick and sticky. Remove from heat.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to about 12 inches in diameter.
  5. Place the pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread the caramelized shallots evenly over the pastry, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.
  6. Sprinkle the crumbled goat cheese over the shallots.
  7. Fold the edges of the pastry over the filling, pleating as necessary. Brush the edges with beaten egg.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves before serving.
