Single Hill Catalyst Barreled Aged Coffee And Vanilla Imperial Stout
My review
The coffee comes through more than the vanilla, general barrel aged flavors coming through as well.
They tastes good overall, although there's a little bit of a tinge of too much of a sweet thing going on. Like a sickly sweet taste.
Additional notes
**Single Hill Catalyst Barrel Aged Coffee and Vanilla Imperial Stout**
**Style**
This beer is an Imperial Stout, a style known for its robust and intense flavors, often incorporating a higher alcohol content than standard stouts. The "barrel aged" designation indicates that this stout has been matured in barrels, likely those previously used for aging spirits such as whiskey or bourbon, infusing the beer with complex flavors.
**Flavor Profile**
- **Coffee Notes**: Expect rich, roasted aromas and flavors from the coffee, contributing to a slightly bitter and toasty undertone. This component often adds depth and complements the roasted malt characteristics inherent to stouts.
- **Vanilla Infusion**: The vanilla adds a creamy sweetness, balancing the bitter coffee notes and enhancing the overall smoothness of the stout. It brings a dessert-like quality that is typical in barrel aged stouts.
- **Barrel Character**: The barrel aging process imparts additional layers of complexity, such as hints of oak, caramel, and sometimes traces of the original spirit, like bourbon or whiskey. These elements introduce a warm, slightly boozy character with a subtle smokiness and notes of dried fruits or spice.
**Notable Characteristics**
- **High ABV**: As an Imperial Stout, it is likely to have a higher alcohol by volume (ABV), contributing to its warming sensation and rich body. The exact ABV would be a critical detail for consumers who appreciate stronger beers.
- **Mouthfeel**: Expect a full-bodied, velvety texture that coats the palate, with a lingering finish that showcases the harmonious blend of coffee, vanilla, and barrel-aged nuances.
- **Aging Potential**: Barrel aged beers often age well over time, allowing the flavors to meld and evolve. This stout may be suitable for cellaring, developing more intricate flavors with age.
